Hi-5 ProTour - Roda Golf February 2008

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

“He was on fire“ was the quote heard from the fellow competitors of the quiet Norwegian Eirik Tage Johansen as he “Burnt up course “ with a record smashing round of 62. ( Even Tiger Woods would be proud of this score ! ). His final round consisted of an opening eagle followed by 9 birdies, seven pars and a solitary bogey. Eirek was proud to mention this was his lowest ever tournament score to date.

Johansen was chased to the finishing line by Taco Remkes ( Who enjoys local support within the region ). Taco held the course record by scoring a great 64 (-8) for just 2 sweet minutes until the Norwegian hold his 62nd shot but finished on his own in second place on -17 . In third place was the in form and ever present Carlos Garcia Simarro finishing on -16. In all 37 from the cut field of 40 finished under par.

Thanks go from the Hi5 Pro Tour to all at the superb Roda Resort for making the event such a success. Players were presented with great playing conditions thanks to head green keeper Roger Stillwell, 17 years experience on the European Tour, along with his maintenance team. At the prize ceremony Hi5 presented the signed record scorecard from Eirik to Bruno Dureux, managing director of Calidona. In acceptance, Sr Dureux was very complimentary of the high quality of play shown by the Hi5 Pro Tour competitors this week.

Johansen’s win on the immaculately presented Roda course placed on top of the current Hi5 ProTour 2008 Order of Merit. Three of the top five on the current order of merit will compete next week at Mosa Trajectum in the final event for the title of 2008 Hi5 Pro Tour Order of merit winner. Thanks go out to our tour sponsors Titleist, Thomas Sabo, Solmar, 1Car1.com, Kama sport management, H20 and Golf Box for making the 2008 tour possible.Play commences next week from Monday onwards at the well-known Mosa Trajectum course in Murcia. Spectators are welcome to see, on view, some of Europe’s finest young golfing talent.
