Hondon Valley GS, El Plantio, 1car1 Trophy
Cliff Parkinson continued in his rich vain of form to add the 1car1 Trophy to his other recent win at Alenda Golf Club. With 30 Stableford points he won the trophy and a weeks car hire in the UK generously donated by the sponsors 1car1.
It was a cold and windy start to the day. Nonetheless, just before the 11 o’clock Tee Time, all the members gathered outside the Clubhouse for a photo call with Rob Gillespie and his colleague representing the sponsors. The first three or four groups out had to contend with the strong wind.

By about 1.30 pm the wind had abated to a breeze and the picturesque course was bathed in warm sunshine. The course itself was in good condition but play was extremely slow. The average four ball took six hours to complete the eighteen holes. Most members found Stableford points hard to come by as slow progress on the course and the tricky wind conditions turned it into a low scoring event. Mark the Pool man was severely censured for accepting a call on his mobile phone to slow things up even more! His mobile will be confiscated before teeing off on future golf days. The R and A Rules Limited would do well to introduce a rule banning mobile phones from all golf courses don’t you think?
At five o’clock in the evening the first of ten groups were handing their cards in. Two members, one of whom could have won the event, were disqualified for failing to complete their scorecards correctly. Captain Jim thanked the sponsors, 1car1.com/spain, for providing a very attractive glass Trophy and main prizes. He presented the prizes to all the winning members including Jim Lally who won the draw for the President’s Prize and Albert Baggaley who crowned a very successful day by winning the Green Fee Refund Draw.
